Teacher Quality Standard V — Evidence #2

The evidence is the morning announcements that I write, as well as the emails I get from teachers asking me to include certain events or other announcements. Everyday, I also include a quote that has to do with growth mindset or our PRIDE acronym. The announcements are part of the News Crew and I am personally responsible for getting them up and running. I have been in charge of writing and making sure the announcements are read every day for the last two and a half years. The student’s read the announcements before they lead the pledge, but I am responsible for scheduling the students and making sure they practice before they get on the intercom. Before I suggested (and volunteered) to do the announcements, there was nothing in place to share information, celebrations, or special dates. Since I have assumed this responsibility, students know when our sports teams do well, when clubs are cancelled, when breaks, pictures, concerts, fundraisers, and whatever else may be happening is happening.

Do you realize you couldn’t go to the doctor or dentist without science? Did you know that we wouldn’t have running water or fresh grown food without science? If you are in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade and want to participate in our IACS Science Fair, Please meet in Ms. Nelson classroom on Mondays, after school until 4:45. Learn how to create a hypothesis and follow through on an experiment. Enter our school Science Fair and win! See posters in the halls or Ms. Nelson for more information.

How Does This Demonstrate Proficiency of the Standard?

  • I am contributing my skills and knowledge as a writer to my teaching practice, (paraphrasing the quotes, for example) (element B).
  • I am advocating for the students and school by partnering with the students to keep the entire student body better informed (element C).
  • The students who read the announcements learn responsibility, but they LOVE reading over the intercom (element C).
